How these numbers were collected

The source is top-100-million-domains (WebsiteLaunches), a public ranking of the 100 million most popular domains. We visited the top 20 million of them between September 30, 2026 and October 3, 2026 and checked each homepage for WordPress: generator tags, REST API links and headers, theme and plugin files served by the site itself, WordPress cookies and hosting headers, with extra probes for unclear cases. 18,895 WordPress installs that showed a placeholder, maintenance page or error were excluded from these statistics. Details are on the methodology page.

Limits

  • Only plugins visible on the homepage are counted, so plugin shares are a lower bound.
  • Sites beyond the top 20 million domains of the ranking are not included.
  • Country is based on the domain extension, not on where the business or server is.
